The use of mobile devices in 21st teaching / learning.

“There was a time when people felt the internet was another world, but now people realize it’s a tool that we use in the world “ – Tom Berners Lee

The world around us is rapidly changing making advancements in many areas especially technology. Learning has changed tremendously since the incorporation of modern technology. With today’s generations, introducing technology into learning can be one of the many ways to grasp the attention of the learners. With the use of  the numerous apps out there, all with many different purposes, they target  groups of all types of people. For example, ModMath helps students battling dyslexia and dysgraphia do math or Autism express an app designed to help young people with autism express their emotions. All of which can be used on the day to day basis with  phones , tablets and or laptops. In the past, being that technology wasn’t what it is now , learning had many different approaches yet in mobile devices it has its cons. It has proven itself to be reliable especially during times like these. Take the global pandemic for example,  with the educational facilities unable to meet, the use of mobile devices have allowed primary students up to college students to be able to continue studies while in their own homes. If technology was not advanced as it was today , the learning process would’ve been on hold and it would have set students back.

Though technology has its advantages , there are disadvantages as well. Working with mobile devices takes a lot of discipline. These devices also have a lot of personal uses that can create a distraction for learners such as games and social media. Along with this not all people can adjust to learning through a mobile device. Many people learn hands on and using a mobile device just wouldn’t work for them. Mobile devices are still man made devices and can be destroyed at anytime. Along with that they can have hardware and software issues that can cause a loss to saved learning documents. Another con of mobile devices would be that everyone can’t afford the luxury of one or the handles they need to operate it such as internet connection.

In conclusion as useful as mobile devices may be they still have certain kinks that need to be worked out. Mobile devices can spice up learning and make lessons more interesting. They can conform to different students in classrooms or useful when classroom cannot be but can also cause a distraction in the learning process along with the hardware/software functions and not everyone can afford it .
